France will commemorate the centenary of the First World War in 2014 and the 70th anniversary of the liberation during the Second World War.
The Var was a major territory of the liberation : in Toulon on November 2nd, 1942, the navy stubbled its fleet so that it does not fall in the enemy's hands, and on August 15th, 1944, started the landing in Provence on the beaches situated below the massif of the Maures.
On the occasion Le Var will be hosting a packed events. Here is a list of thes events.
August, from the 13th to the 16th
Cavalaire-sur-mer - Commemorations
A set of demonstrations and animations are proposed : stock exchange of military antiques, installation of an US base camp of 1944 and a historical pageant of the landing by Provence 44. Commemorations will be closed by the traditional big fireworks, in the evening of the 15th, on the beach of the city center.

Sainte-Maxime - Patriotic ceremoniesOn Thursday, several patriotic ceremonies in diverse places. Boarding on boats to throw flowers at the sea. Wine of honor offered by the Municipality on the square of the Harbor office.
On Friday, opration of Landing on the beach (subject to availability of naval forces). Parade of military vehicles, fireworks and ball.

August, 15th
Toulon - Big Maritime Parade
A naval and an air parade are organized in Toulon. As in 2004 warships will follow the coast between the Cap of Antibes and Toulon. The aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, with the president and his guests on board, will be at anchor from Toulon and warships will come to greet him.

9 soldiers died during the liberation of the island just before the landing of Provence. Remembrances progress on the island and the Association of the Friends of Port-Cros will publish for the occasion a book on the liberation of this paradisiac island occupied since 1943.

That day will be inaugurated, in the presence of the American authorities, the traffic circle of the Third US Infantry division, which participated in the liberation, as well as a monument and a commemorative tablet in its honor. Other events will take place all day long which will be closed by a fireworks.

Toulon - Liberation of the City
Place d'Armes - Official gathering for the ceremony of the Liberation of Toulon.
6:00 pm : paraded and deposit of sheaves on the monuments Jean Moulin, the Rhine and the Danube and the Deaths.
